How is the ST EnMS guideline related to ISO 50001?

The Suruhanjaya Tenaga EnMS guideline takes into consideration ISO 50001:2018 and other recognised references. Implementation under the ST guideline does not automatically mean an organisation is ISO 50001 certified.

How long does it take to develop an EnMS?

Duration depends on organisation size, facilities, available data, existing procedures and readiness. A project plan will be proposed after the initial assessment.

What information is required to begin?

Typical information includes utility bills, fuel records, production or occupancy data, equipment lists, organisation structure, existing procedures, projects and metering information.

Do we need an Energy Management Committee?

An effective EnMS normally requires a multidisciplinary committee involving management, the Registered Energy Manager and relevant operational and support departments.

Can you help establish our energy baseline and indicators?

Yes. We can help identify appropriate indicators, compile relevant data, establish a baseline and determine whether normalisation or regression analysis is suitable.

Can you guarantee energy savings?

No specific savings can be guaranteed before assessment and Measurement and Verification. Actual savings depend on conditions, implementation and sustained operational control.

Can this service prepare us for ISO 50001 certification?

The service can establish many practices supporting ISO 50001 readiness. Formal certification requires a separate audit by an accredited certification body.

Can you support more than one facility?

Yes. The EnMS may cover a single facility or multi-site organisation, subject to the agreed scope and boundary.
